Goal: Democratizing mental health education and building capacity for mental health care in Africa
Despite the increasing need for mental health awareness and care in Africa, knowledge-sharing, collaborations, and discourse remain limited within the mental health landscape. MHKAFE firmly believes social, economic, or cultural background should never be a barrier to knowledge acquisition. The KEWT Initiative seeks to bridge the gap between diverse African communities and researchers, institutions, and other knowledge hubs by democratizing access to mental health information. By providing a space to learn and actively engage with mental health resources and tools, MHKAFE hopes to grow a community rooted in collaboration and capacity-building across a variety of expertise and sectors.
The Initiative’s primary aim is to nurture Knowledgeable, Empowered, [W]holistically Trained Africans who are passionate and equipped to advance personal and community mental health. The initiative is rooted in two core MHKAFE principles- Knowledge and Empowerment. Through equitable and diverse modes of knowledge-sharing, we seek to transform lives and shift existing paradigms surrounding mental health. The KEWT African initiative will strengthen avenues of empowerment by connecting the existing brilliance within African communities with culturally relevant tools and touchpoints for collaboration.
Goal: Democratize mental health education and build capacity for mental health care in Africa.
